Rim walks
Walking a crater rim gives you the lake on one side and the plains of the park on the other. Allow an hour or two for a loop, and take a local guide where one is offered.

From Hotel Premier
North of Bushenyi, the land is dotted with round, steep-sided lakes. Each one fills the crater of an old volcanic explosion, part of a volcanic field called Bunyaruguru that lies close to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
They are quiet places. Most have a footpath around the rim, farms terraced on the slopes and very little traffic. Because the craters are so close together, you can see several in one morning.
What you will see
Walking a crater rim gives you the lake on one side and the plains of the park on the other. Allow an hour or two for a loop, and take a local guide where one is offered.
Some craters have simple timber viewing decks. Morning and late afternoon light is best, when the lake is calm and the haze is low.
The roads between the lakes pass banana farms, schools and trading centres. This is a good way to see everyday life in Western Uganda.
When to go
Clear mornings give the sharpest views. Dry-season roads are easier, but the lakes are green and lovely in the rains too.
